Are you worried that someone you love may have hearing loss? If so, it is essential they receive hearing loss treatment at the earliest possible opportunity. If someone is struggling to hear, it does not always mean hearing loss; it could simply be impacted earwax. However, it is vital to get to the bottom of the issue to provide the most relevant treatment. With that in mind, we have put together a collection of some of the signs that you should be looking out for if you are worried that your loved one may have hearing loss.

Listening to the television or radio louder than they usually do

One of the first signs to look out for is whether or not the person is listening to the television or radio louder than they usually do. This is one of the first things people tend to notice when they worry that someone else has hearing loss. If the volume is at an uncomfortably loud degree in the person’s home, they could be struggling to hear effectively.

Pay more attention to the conversations that you have with the person

Aside from this, you should also pay more attention to your conversations with the person in question. Do they constantly ask you to repeat what you have said? When you speak, do they look at your lips all of the time to lip-read what you have been saying? Do they lose interest in the conversation quickly? This could be because they are struggling to keep up, and so they have simply given up on the conversation you are having because they cannot hear.

Find out whether or not the person has withdrawn from elements of their social life

Aside from the signs that we have mentioned so far, it would help to note whether the person in question is avoiding social situations and whether or not they are more withdrawn than usual. If they are, this could be because they are having hearing troubles, and so they do not enjoy being in social situations as much.

Encourage the person to book an appointment with a hearing health professional

As you can see, there are several different signs and indications that someone you love may be experiencing hearing loss. If you have noticed any of the signs mentioned above, we would certainly recommend that you have a kind and caring chat with the person in question to encourage them to get their ears checked. You could even both go together to get your ears examined.

Make sure that you do not push the person into a corner because they may say that they do not want to go to a hearing health professional. It could be that the person has noticed some of the signs themselves, but they have been trying to push it to the back of their minds because they do not want to face the truth.
